Club-wide Awards

Every year a number of club-wide awards are presented to deserving individuals. Each section (Men’s, Women’s, Juniors and Midweek) also present their own honours. This page displays the most recent award winners as well as an archive of past winners.

Bob Esselmont Club Chairperson’s Award

The Bob Esselmont Club Chairperson’s Award is presented to the person, or persons who have made a significant contribution to the club.

Dedicated Coach Award

Presented to a dedicated volunteer Coach (Senior), who goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Chairperson's Award - Women’s Section

The Women’s Chairperson Award is awarded by the women’s section chairperson to someone who has made a significant contribution to the women’s section in the current season.

Chairperson's Award - Men’s Section (Ron Todero Award)

The Ron Todero Award is awarded by the men’s section chairmen to someone who has made a significant contribution to the men’s section in the current season. The award is named in honour of club life member Ron Todero who served as Club President for 4 years and Men’s Chairmen for 9 years.

Rising Star Award

Presented to the best, or most dedicated Junior Player playing their first year of Senior hockey at Doncaster Hockey Club. The Rising Star does not need to be awarded every year - only when the Sections feel there is a worthy recipient.

The winner must have been training with the top Squad, and be a regular member of a Junior Doncaster side. The player must not have been suspended during the season and represent the club in a positive light at all times.

Filly Award

The Andrea Snow Filly Award recognises and encourages very talented young players playing senior women's hockey at Doncaster Hockey Club. The winner must: be under the age of 20 (as at January 1st the year of the award); not have been suspended during the season; have played a minimum of 12 senior club games; and represent the Doncaster Hockey Club in a positive light at all times.

The Filly Award has been aptly named in recognition of Andrea “Philly” Snow for her long term commitment to the club as a Life member, player, coach and administrator. She has encouraged, mentored and inspired many junior and senior players.

Colt Award

The Colt Award recognises and encourages very talented young players playing senior men's hockey at Doncaster Hockey Club. The winner must: be under the age of 21 (as at January 1st the year of the award); not have been suspended during the season; have played a minimum of 12 senior club games; and represent the Doncaster Hockey Club in a positive light at all times.

The Chairperson Award is awarded by the Junior’s Section Chairperson to someone who has made a significant contribution to the Junior’s Section in the current season.

Best and Fairest

Helen Padget Trophy - Women’s Premier League Best Player

The Helen Padget Award is awarded to the Women’s Premier League Best player as voted by their peers throughout the season. The award is named in honour of Helen Padget who has won this award five times in State League 1 and a further four times in the club's highest grade. She is arguably Doncaster’s best ever female player winning the league best player in 1988. Helen has also made a significant contribution to junior and senior coaching at Doncaster over many years, with this service being recognised with a Life Membership in 2015.

John Henry Award - Men’s Premier League Best & Fairest

The John Henry Shield is awarded to the Men’s Premier League Best and Fairest player as voted by their peers throughout the season. The award is named in honour of club life and founding member John Henry, who was also the first winner of this award in 1974. John Henry has worked in many roles within the club including 10 years as executive secretary.

Ann Henry Award

The Ann Henry Award is awarded to awarded to someone who makes a contribution to the DHC junior section over and above the call of duty.

John Mallinder Memorial Trophy

The John Mallinder Memorial Trophy is awarded to a family where two or more family members make a significant contribution to the DHC junior section.
