Vale Graeme Parris  1941  --  2021    Passed away Saturday 16th October 2021

It is with very sad news that we acknowledge the passing of Graeme Parris.

A Doncaster Club legend and Foundation Men’s Team member, Graeme was the Club’s first senior goalkeeper in 1974.  Graeme was a local hockey player living in Lower Templestowe playing for the Fairfield Hockey Club, later with the Ivanhoe Club formed what is now known as the Yarra Valley Hockey Club.  This was before the Doncaster Hockey Club was formed.  Graeme was amongst a number of Fairfield Club players that played for Doncaster when it began.

Graeme became a resident of Arcare in King Street Templestowe in March this year following a bad fall at his home in Jeffery Street in November last year.  Graeme became ill last Saturday morning and late morning was transferred to the Austin Hospital.  Two of Graeme`s sons were on their way to the Hospital to see him (Saturday afternoon) when they got the news that he had passed away. Graeme’s passing was very sudden.

Graeme was 80 years of age and had three sons Mark, Stephen and Brett, two of which played at the Club. Stephen was the Club’s Premier League goalkeeper for a number of years. Graeme`s wife Margaret passed away five years ago and they were both on the Club’s various social committees over the years.  Both Graeme and Margaret were always willing to help out.  Even as recently as last year John Henry told Graeme he was going down to the Club to do some jobs and Graeme said to give him a yell if John needed a hand, Graeme was always ready and willing to help.

Graeme was a great mate of 47 years of our Life Members Ian Assender, Ron Todero, John Broadbent, Bob Esselmont and John Henry. Graeme could always be seen supporting the Club at the Home games until Covid hit last year.

Graeme will be sadly missed by all that knew him, but John Henry reminds us to remember the good times.  RIP Bowyang.
