This Girl Can

Come and join us and have a go

Research tells us that most Victorian adults aren’t getting enough physical activity to benefit their health. But on top of that, less women than men are getting active.

This Girl Can – Victoria is an empowering campaign from VicHealth, based on Sport England’s highly successful This Girl Can campaign (which motivated a whopping 3.9 million women in England to take their fitness into their own hands). After seeing the impact there, the VicHealth team was inspired to get involved – and now, Australia is the first country in the world to license this powerful campaign.

Hockey Australia is a sports partner of This Girl Can and Doncaster Hockey Club is right behind it too.

This Girl Can Week is from 18-24 March 2019 and Doncaster Hockey Club is conducting some programs that are aimed at encouraging all women to get off the couch and get on the pitch.

Under16 Girls

Doncaster was the initial hockey club in Victoria to be involved in the VicHealth program to encourage as many young women as possible to get active.  Doncaster’s Operation Manager, Andrea Snow and Junior Development Officer, Maria Romagosa (also Women’s Premier League Coach) have been running an introductory summer program for girls 12 to 16 years of age.

The next step in that program is now the This Girl Can Come ‘n’ Try! on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00pm to 7:15pm during March.  This program is open to everyone interested, no hockey experience or skills are required.  If girls love the sport and want to continue, the program will also provide transition for new players into the Winter hockey season.

But the first step is to get active and have a try: Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00pm!

Mid Week Ladies Social Hockey

Mid Week Ladies Social Hockey has been part of the Doncaster Hockey Club for many years and it has always been a wonderful outing for Club members, especially players’ parents.  Mid Week Ladies hockey is most welcome to all abilities, ages and fitness levels. Relaxed and friendly format with equipment provided, no better way to get involved in the a little bit of physical exercise. Most importantly, Morning Tea afterwards!
