Season 2021 now joins Season 2020

Dear DHC Member,

It is difficult to accept, once again, the unsatisfactory early end to another Winter hockey season.  While Hockey Victoria is yet to communicate their plans for the formal closure of the season, we received a Hock-E-Comms on Thursday 2nd September confirming this decision.

Premierships will not be awarded in 2021. The club will discuss the potential cancellation of Presentation Nights at the next Board meeting.  Juniors hope to hold some celebratory events in person when they can.  The decision on Seniors will be communicated as soon as possible. If you need to reach out to someone to talk about your disappointment please contact your Section Heads or, if you need more support, our Club Chaplain Paul White 0419 386 475.

Whilst we are disappointed not to be playing out the season, we would like to celebrate the teams who finished on top of the ladder at the cessation of play:

Men’s Masters 45+ A, Men’s Metro B South East, Women’s Metro B East and U16 Girls Shield.

Congratulations to these teams on their success and to all players, coaches, umpires and supporters for your persistence in difficult circumstances throughout the season.

We have plenty to look forward to when Summer hockey can commence, however, and the club is getting ready for ‘fun in the sun’ right now!

Indoor Junior teams are enrolling now in HV competitions and Seniors and Masters will enter teams in HV Summer outdoor competitions also.

The club will hold intraclub Masters, Open and Junior Summer hockey with an 8-14 week full field season for everyone including players from other clubs. We will start when we can and this will determine the length of the season. With the spirit of gratitude and generosity as our mantra, entry fees will be halved to $60 with the facility to pay more if you feel you can for all our Intraclub Summer Competitions. The canteen and bar will be open on Monday and Wednesday evenings with a BBQ also planned.

We have Junior Academies featuring coaching from our Olympic Silver medallist Josh Simmonds to lead into our 2022 preseason.  Our new changerooms and kitchen are completed and will be ready to use over Summer.  We have some exciting developments to reveal with regards to branding and facility upgrades too. There is something for everyone!

Look out for comms via Team App, socials and emails.

Keep fit and get ready for a sizzling Summer season.  We hope you all look forward to the promise of opening back up, to reconnect and to hearing the ‘crack’ of the ball on backboards again soon.

Best Wishes,

Sue Sturrock  |   Chair Executive Board
