Women & Girls Participation

Women and girls are most welcome

Doncaster Hockey Club (DHC) is a great place for women and girls of all ages to get involved.  Whether you are thinking about playing, team managing, coaching, administrating or simply supporting, be it juniors or seniors, the door is always open.

We encourage and support women in leadership roles and are proud that 47% of Doncaster’s Junior coaches, and 40% of the DHC Board is female and several other women hold key leadership positions.

We continue to provide an inclusive environment for all levels of female participations with opportunities to play in one of our seven all female Junior teams, six Senior women’s teams, or our be part of the only Mid-Week Ladies Social hockey in Victoria.

And Doncaster is well aware that most Victorian adults aren’t getting enough physical activity to benefit their health.  But on top of that, less women than men are getting active.  Doncaster is a leader in encouraging women to be involved.

In an effort to increase female activity, VicHealth is promoting the This Girl Can – Victoria program.  Hockey Victoria is a sports partner of This Girl Can and Doncaster Hockey Club is right behind it too.  Doncaster was one of the initial hockey clubs in Victoria to be involved in the VicHealth program to encourage as many young women as possible to get active.

Within the Doncaster Club, there are numerous programs designed to help women and girls get into hockey and enjoy it, some of these include:

  • Encouragement of Junior & senior female umpires
  • Transition Programs for juniors to seniors
  • ‘Girls Night in’- linking girls across the Club
  • Team based social events
  • iMatter ‘respectful relationships’ workshops for young girls and boys
  • Recipient of Vic Health Grant 2018- Increasing Girls Participation

Doncaster has also been a club driver behind the Hookin2Hockey program, aimed at first time hockey players aged 5 to 11 years.  Hook into Hockey is a safe and inclusive environment for girls and boys which also allows parents, guardians and siblings the opportunity to be involved through numerous volunteer roles that are important to the success of the program.

Most importantly, Doncaster HC goes out of its way to celebrate and support women and girls to embrace physical activity in a way that suits you. The door is always open to everyone.
