HV recently held a Masters Information night – Summary points available

Hockey Victoria recently held a meeting with affiliates to discuss the upcoming Male and Female Masters Season.  Jason Henry and Matthew Mitchell represented Doncaster at this meeting and have kindly provided the following summary of main points to come out of the meeting

  • All Women’s Masters competitions will run on a Wednesday night
  • They will be venue based competitions, (depending on interests), otherwise may be played over 2 venues, not home and away
  • 2 competition divisions, North West and South East
  • Will consist of 15 rounds
  • Round 1 Wednesday 10th April

Women’s comps are basically unchanged with no age group requirements.

  • New age groups 35+ and 45+ (55+ to be confirmed based on demand, Doncaster support this concept given our club demographic)
  • All matches will be home and away as per the current Masters fixture and timeslots
  • There is no dispensation for players who do not meet age eligibility (i.e. no U 45 players can play in 45+ comp)
  • Player eligibility is based on the age the player turns by the 31st December in the competition year
  • 50+ competition will still be run on a Wednesday night as is now and will continue to be venue based, (i.e. Footscray)

From a DHC perspective we advised that we were supportive of the competition structure.  In fact, the lowering of the age eligibility has sparked interest from some of our past members, who would otherwise be ineligible.  We believe that the 55+ comp would be of interest to our club, allowing our more experienced members to play in a competition without chasing the 35 year old players around.

We will have the ability to enter teams into specific grades online commencing 14th December.

Thank you to Jason and Matthew for representing our Club at the meeting and providing this information.

HV provided the following information sheet as well as a copy of the 2013 Competition Calendar.
