The Kookaburras defeated New Zealand 2-1 in the International Festival of Hockey held at Melbourne’s State Netball and Hockey Centre.  This tournament included the United States of America, Japan, the Netherlands and Pakistan as well as the two finalists New Zealand and Australia.

Doncaster’s Kiran Arunasalam continued his role in the Kookaburra team playing the tournament in his home town.

Doncaster also provided some ‘additional’ help with volunteers Robyn Pascoe and Barry Phillips.  Doncaster youngsters were also mascots in the international tournament.

The Hockeyroos won the Bronze Medal at the IFOH tournament with a 5-0 defeat of the United States.  The Hockeyroos blew the match apart with a four goal burst in the third quarter.

Japan had put the Hockeyroos out of the IFOH final match the day prior in a tight match which the Japanese won 3-2.  The Hockeyroos were then due to play a three test series against Japan in Adelaide in the week following the IFOH tournament.  The Hockeyroos have put the key loss to Japan in the IFOH behind them and beaten Japan 5-1 and 2-1 in the opening two tests in Adelaide.  Doncaster’s Madi Ratcliffe scored for the Hockeyroos in the 2-1 win over the Japanese.
