Congratulations Hayley & Josh

Hockey Australia has named the 2019 Hockeyroos & Kookaburra Squads with Hayley Padget and Josh Simmonds being selected in the elite group of 27.

Hayley made her Hockeyroo debut in September this year in the Four Nations Women’s Ibaraki International Tournament played in Japan.  She was again selected in the Hockeyroos for the Champions Trophy in November in China.  Clearly, she made an outstanding impression to now be added to the National Senior Women’s Squad for 2019.

Hayley has not only kept working hard and improving on her match skills, she has overcome injury setbacks and frustrations and never lost sight of playing for Australia.  Hayley’s recent inclusion in the Hockeyroos in Japan and China opened a door for her and her performance there enabled her to make the most of that opportunity.

Hayley’s selection comes just a little over 18 months ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, yet another door is open and we wish Hayley all the very best.

Congratulations Hayley, may you continue your outstanding efforts.

Hockey Australia published the 2019 Hockeyroos Squad on its website.

Josh Simmonds was selected for his second season in the Kookaburra squad.

Josh Simmonds is just 22 and has made the most of his opportunities in recent years.  Simmonds was selected in the Under 21 Australian side in 2016 playing in the Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia and the Junior World Cup in India the month following.  In 2017 Simmonds was added to the National Men’s Development Squad.

In June, Simmonds was then asked to move to Perth, where Hockey Australia keep their elite hockey players under the microscope.  Just three months after arriving, Simmonds played for the Kookaburras in Darwin for the International Hockey Open against Argentina, Malaysia and Japan.
