Winter Season Playing Information

Welcome to the Doncaster's Junior Winter Season 2019.

Doncaster Hockey Club is offering the following winter season hockey options:

Stick to Hockey

The Stick to Hockey program is a natural progression from Hookin2Hockey by putting Skills learnt into action and will help participants develop their skills further as they move towards traditional club hockey.  Stick to Hockey gives participants the opportunity to play modified games with less players on each side ensuring that each player is more involved in the game. It allows the further development of the fundamental hockey skills, as well as the game based learning that come through the modified matches.

Stick to Hockey Minkey is an intra-club initiative for 5 to 6 year olds. This is designed for those too young to play competition hockey or would prefer to play this as an introduction prior to playing competition- Wednesdays 4.15pm-5.00pm.

Stick to Hockey Under 8 is a modified intra-club competition played in conjunction with training sessions – Wednesdays 4.15-5.00pm. (In addition there will be 3 scheduled Sunday morning carnivals throughout the season).

Stick to Hockey Under 10 North East Metro modified Competition (Doncaster, KBH Brumbies & Yarra Valley)- Trainings Monday & Wednesdays 4.45pm-5.45pm and a Modified Competition on Saturday mornings 11.00 am-12.15pm, for those who have completed the Minkey, H2H, U8 programs or who are relatively new to hockey.

Club hockey competition is a more structured format than Stick to Hockey and will allow participants to compete in teams against other clubs.

Competition Structure in 2019

U12-U18 competitions - 14 Round Home and Away games with 3 weeks of finals.

The proposed Shield and Pennant Competitions Structure will include two (2) conferences of eight (8) teams - Doncaster HC will play in the South East Conference. Under this competition structure, teams will play each team in their conference twice through. As a general rule teams will play each other once at home and once away except in the case where all games from a round (and respective returning leg) will be played at the SNHC. Where possible, all Junior Shield and Pennant competitions will play a home and away fixture at the SNHC.

More Information will provided at Parent Information sessions.

U10 competitions – 14 Round home and away games with end of year Carnival.

Officials & Umpire Development

Umpires: We are looking for expressions of interest for anyone (players, siblings or parents) wanting to get involved in umpiring for Doncaster Hockey Club. Training and coaching support will be available. No experience necessary. Please email (Temporary) DHC Umpire Coordinator - or Operations Manager - ASAP.

Technical Officials for Premier League Games: No experience necessary. Any parents, or players over 14 years wanting to be on the Tech Bench of Premier League Home Games and a Technical Official. Training and match support will be available and a great way to be up close to all the Premier League action. Please email DHC Technical Official Coordinator- Robyn Pascoe-

U10, 12, 14, 16 & 18 players will be required to wear the club uniform. U8’s a club T-shirt and socks. Uniforms can be purchased from the Doncaster Hockey Club Pro shop.

You can view uniforms, prices, etc. here.

The Pro shop will be open for sales from early March.

Players are expected to be available for every fixtured match thus displaying the necessary level of team commitment. Players should notify their coach ASAP if not available to play (with good reason - e.g., injury) so alternative arrangements can be made if required. Doncaster junior section wishes to avoid giving match forfeits due lack of player availability as they cost members money and are disappointing to opposition teams, other team mates, our coaches and club officials. Players should arrive at the ground for matches at least 20 minutes (coaches may want you there earlier) before the start of the game to allow adequate time for warm up and to listen to the coach’s instructions.

Protective Equipment

Parents are reminded that all junior players require protective equipment (including shin guards and mouth guards), and runners for training and matches. Players also need to wear club uniform for matches only.

Players defending penalty corners are strongly recommended to purchase a face mask.

Everyone is advised to check the HV website fixture on the Wednesday prior to matches as late changes can occur especially in the early rounds of the season.
